ARTIST STATEMENT

My art explores themes that reflect a feminist and humanist desire to unite the spirit, body and the intellect. Ideas and images emerge from intuition, conscious thought and research. Cultural and personal identity and universal beliefs have been ongoing subjects.

Whatever subject or idea my work focuses on, the human presence is always there, whether it is  represented as an image of a person, a vessel, or a found object.

My work has been a search to find ways to create art that is timeless and not bound by trends. Timelessness is an ephemeral, lofty and possibly unattainable goal, but to try one must be aware of current innovations in art and at the same time remember and reassess the past.

Experimenting with new materials has allowed me to play. This practice has helped me to discover different aesthetic forms of expression and keep my work fresh.

Like many women today I search for balance. As a parent, artist and educator this is an ongoing challenge. However, as I face life's many hurdles and transitions I am grateful that I chose art, or rather that art chose me.
